Heathrow is a world class airport. We are focused on great service and affordability for our passengers. This is what drives our vision for the new facilities that expansion will bring.
World class facilities
Heathrow expansion is an opportunity for us to set a new benchmark for passenger experience.
As we expand, we are building an airport with facilities that respond to passengers’ needs both today and in the future. By considering how the latest technologies will shape the passenger journey of tomorrow, we will deliver an expanded airport that is not just world class by today’s standards, but anticipates the needs of the passengers of 2030 and beyond, all delivered in a sustainable and affordable way.
And as part of our commitment to the environment, we are looking into creating a terminal space that requires less energy to run by using renewable technologies such as natural, solar heating.
Affordable, iconic and showcasing Britain
Heathrow expansion is an opportunity for us to create an airport which suits a changing, commercially conscious and more responsible world.
Together with Grimshaw, a world-leading concept architect, we are working on delivering a unique and sustainable new terminal space to support the third runway. As part of an innovative design process, we are exploring the construction of a “third space” – a semi- enclosed terminal space which offers a climatic experience which responds to the spirit of the great British outdoors.
By using solar energy, the climate will be in tune with the external temperature but staying within a range of between 15-25°C at all times, delivering the required level of thermal comfort for passengers and airport colleagues at each stage of their journey through Heathrow.
