The World is Waiting Report
In our latest report, The World is Waiting, we've detailed all of the progress on Heathrow expansion and our commitments for the project. We've also revisited the many strong reasons why Heathrow expansion is a vital project for the UK's future.
Our national conversation – maximising benefits for the whole of the UK
One of our core guiding principles for this project, is to maximise the benefits of an expanded Heathrow for the whole of the UK. As part of this commitment, we have visited every region and nation of the UK to have a National Conversation with local businesses, local authorities, Chambers of Commerce, entrepreneurs, and MPs, to discuss how for every part of the country – Heathrow expansion can play a part in their vision and plans for a successful future, post-Brexit.
Building an outward-looking trading nation – growing the UK’s busiest port by value
We are Britain’s largest port by value for exports with countries outside the EU and Switzerland, responsible for over 30% of exports to these markets. In 2017, nearly £106 billion worth of trade with non-EU countries passed through Heathrow – larger than Felixstowe and Southampton (the next two largest ports for non-EU trade) combined). Expansion is a chance to double the cargo capacity at Heathrow.
What is a hub airport? Why Heathrow provides unique benefits compared to other airports in the UK
Hub airports like Heathrow are unique because they pool demand for global connections from local, regional, national and business passengers with cargo. This enables more flights to more destinations – many that are not viable at other airports – and with this, greater competition and choice for consumers.
Building a more sustainable future
We have a strong and enduring commitment to support the communities around the airport. A key part of achieving this is through delivering against our commitments to meet or exceed the package of recommendations made by the Airports Commission.
