Heathrow Expansion to benefit the whole UK

Heathrow expansion is a truly national infrastructure project that will create jobs, boost the economy and connectivity across the UK.

It will deliver new opportunities for businesses up and down the country, opening up new supply chain opportunities and new trading routes with the world.

In 2018, Parliament voted overwhelmingly in support of expansion. Since receiving the political go-ahead, we have been working hard to develop our final plans and we have already started to create the new opportunities and jobs we promised.

We have undertaken extensive, ongoing engagement to shape our designs including two major public consultations. We have listened hard to those who use the airport and those will be impacted by the project, as well as those who support it. This will make sure our final plan delivers its full potential for the UK economy, protection for the environment and opportunities for local residents.

Locally, new jobs have already been created. , we have been working hard to finalise the locations for the four Heathrow logistics hubs – off-site construction centres where parts of the runway will be pre-assembled – to source the skills we need to expand from all across the UK.

Over the coming year we will continue working hard on our plans, further strengthening our partnerships and ensuring that we deliver on our commitments locally and for every region and nation of the UK.

Take a look at the timeline below to see where we’ve been and where we’re going.

This year we launched the first airport-owned Shared Apprenticeship Scheme in construction, that will help build a stronger base of skills for the future.
