North West England

The North West is a key part of England’s Northern Powerhouse. It is home to 530,000 businesses and, by value, it is the source of close to half of England’s goods exports and over 80% of service exports of the Northern Powerhouse regions.

While this economic strength is often considered through the lens of its two major economic centres – Greater Manchester and the Liverpool City Region – there are specialisms and expertise across the entire North West.

Future plans to invest in regional and national infrastructure like HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail could dramatically improve the North West’s future access to the UK’s only hub airport, allowing the region’s businesses to benefit even more from the planned expansion

Anticipated Benefits for the North West from Heathrow Expansion

  • Up to £16bn in economic benefits
  • Creation of up to 15,300 new jobs
  • Potential for new domestic flights to regional airports such as Liverpool
  • HS2 will provide fast routes to London from Crewe, reducing journey times to the airport by over 1 hour 30 minutes.
