Northern Ireland’s business population has seen significant growth in recent years and is confident of sustaining this growth into the future. There are obvious reasons to be confident. Northern Ireland’s education system is one of the best performing in Europe, with the best GCSE and A-level results in the UK and close to eight in ten school leavers going on to higher education.
It has also attracted major business investment, notably in sectors including advanced manufacturing and IT, where strong links with world-leading universities like Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University are driving innovation and productivity growth. Northern Ireland also has bourgeoning tourist industry, where room occupancy rates are high and growth in the sector significant.
An Expanded Heathrow will lead to even better connections from Northern Ireland to the rest of the globe, connecting existing and potential new services from Northern Ireland with up to 40 new long-haul routes from Heathrow.
That means more more visitors to Northern Ireland, more destinations for Northern Irish tourists and more opportunity for Northern Irish businesses to reach new export markets.
